Course Details
This course supports students to develop and increase essential skills in reading text, applying numeracy applications, and using documents relevant to the curriculum in trades and mine training programs. This course will also help prepare students to acquire test-taking strategies relevant to their programs.

    Office Hours: 1.5 Per week

    Student Evaluation
    Procedure:
    Assignments 50-70%, Final 30-50%, Total 100%. Grading procedures follow NVIT policy.
    Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course students should be able to:

  • demonstrate an understanding of the essential skills in relation to the trades industries;
  • demonstrate an understanding of the literacy skills required for the trades industries;
  • demonstrate an understanding of the numeracy skills required for the trades industries;
  • demonstrate an understanding of the document usage skills required for the trades industries; and
  • demonstrate a measurable gain in their respective essential skills.
