A survey course designed to introduce second year students to the tradition of English literature from its heroic beginnings to Shakespeare and Milton.

    Procedure:
    Assignments 50 - 70%, Final 30 - 50%, Total 100 %. Grading procedures follow NVIT policy.
    Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, the student should demonstrate knowledge, skills, and/or attitudes in the following:
  • demonstrate proficiency integral research writing tasks, such as the summary, abstract, proposal, review of research, formal outline, and critical research paper;

  • integrate a variety of documentary sources with the student’s own thinking;

  • demonstrate proficiency at critically reading, analyzing and evaluating both primary and secondary sources in order to interpret and responsibly manage facts, statistics, inferences, expert opinions, and value judgments related to selected authors and readings; and

  • write essays that demonstrate the use of critical thinking skills.
