Course Details
This course uses a special topics approach to expose and immerse students in the Nadut'en language. Students will enhance their basic knowledge and ability to speak the Nadut'en language within a topical context. Students will gain sufficient knowledge to understand, listen and speak sufficient vocabulary related to each special topic. Special topics may include one or more of the following: medicine protocols, roots, berries, feasts, and hunting/fishing protocols, depending on the time of year the course is conducted.

    Procedure:
    Assignments 50-70%, Final 30-50%, Total 100%. Grading procedures follow NVIT policy.
    Learning Outcomes:

     Upon successful completion of this course students should be able to:



    • demonstrate use of basic vocabulary skills that include Nadut’en language words for the types of supplies that are required for various topics (i.e. hunting trips, food-gathering trips, fishing trips, etc.);

    • demonstrate an ability to interact in the topic with mentors through the use of basic Nadut’en language vocabulary related to each topic;

    • demonstrate an ability to verbalize Nadut’en language specific key words associated with selected topics as appropriate for course deliveries; and

    • demonstrate an ability to increase Nadut’en language knowledge of special topics including that may include cultural phrases and contexts, gathering foods, feasts, tool making, arts and everyday interactions.
