Course Details
This practical course follows the Personal Care Assistance I course, and offers students the opportunity to acquire further personal care and assistance skills within the parameters of the Health Care Assistant role. The course is comprised of class and supervised laboratory experiences which assist the student to integrate theory from other Health Care Assistant courses to continue to develop care-giver skills that maintain and promote the comfort, safety and independence of individuals in community and facility contexts.

    Instructors Qualifications: Relevant Master's Degree
    Office Hours: 1.5 per week

    Procedure:
    Assignments 50-70%, Final 30-50%, Total 100%. Grading procedures follow NVIT policy. Note: Students must achieve a minimum grade of C+ in order to proceed into further HTCA courses.
    Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course students should be able to:
  • perform personal care skills in an organized manner ensuring the comfort and appropriate independence of the client;

  • apply an informed problem-solving process to the provision of care and assistance;

  • provide personal care and assistance within the parameters of the Health Care Assistant role; and

  • provide care and assistance in ways that maintain safety for self and others in a variety of contexts.
