Course Details
Practicum III is the final practicum for Aboriginal Early Childhood Education. Learners are expected to progressively take on more responsibility in the third practicum. This practicum provides the learners with experience in applying theory to practice. Learners take on the role of the Early Childhood Educator while having the direction and support of a sponsor teacher. This course includes 200 hours in a practicum setting plus twelve hours of practicum seminar where learners will reflect upon their practicum experience.

  • Prerequisites : AECL 190, AECL 177, AECL 175, AECL 172, AECL 170, AECL 191, (Pre or Co requisite), AECL 175, AECL 177. Prerequisite courses must have a grade of C or better.

    Procedure:
    Assignments 50-70%, Final 30-50%, Total 100%. Grading procedures follow NVIT policy.
    Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course students should be able to:
  • Observe, monitor, and record children's development.

  • Design, implement, and evaluate anti-bias programs that promote development in all domains, reflect diversity and inclusion, and are developmentally appropriate.

  • Use the practicum as learning experience by taking initiative and using the sponsor teacher and centre as a resource.

  • Supervise small and large groups of children with limited dependency on the sponsor teacher.

  • Guide and manage low and high intensity situations or behaviors with young children.

  • Ensure health and safety standards are met and model health practices.

  • Respond to children and the Centre’s needs.

  • Demonstrate professionalism when interacting with parents, sponsor teachers, educators, and other professional and visitors to the center.

  • Achieve the required rating in all competencies connected to AECE 190, AECE 191, and AECE 192 in the Child Care Sector Occupational Matrix for Aboriginal Early Childhood Education at the College of New Caledonia.
