Course Details
This course provides a foundation in theory and practice in linguistics and literacy. Students will learn the processes that occur in word formation, phrase formation, and sentence formation. A general introduction to linguistics will be given.

    Procedure:
    Assignments 50-70%, Final 30-50%. Total 100%. Grading procedures follow NVIT policy.
    Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course students should be able to:

  • communicate in a variety of cultural situations;

  • describe activities associated with the seasonal round and the human life cycle;

  • demonstrate how Secwépemc stories deal with the seasonal and human life cycles;

  • recognize and use yes-no and wh-question strategies;

  • show in short dialogues, the ability to use target grammatical constructions; and,

  • produce common phrases.
