Course Details
This course is an introductory mentored special topics course. The course provides students immersion learning following a special topics model. Fluent St'át'imcets language topic mentors engage students in total immersion sessions focused on increasing the use of the St'át'imcets language. Implementing a situational learning practice to guide the topics plan for selected sessions. Situational learning topics may include indoor, outdoor, or other practical learning experiences.

    Assignments 50-70%, Final 30-50%. TOTAL 100% Grading procedures follow NVIT policy.
    Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course students should be able to:
  • speak and respond in a broad range of conversational situations;

  • demonstrate St’át’imcets conversation using more advanced sentence structures that demonstrate enhanced St’át’imcets vocabulary;

  • produce their own versions of the short stories;

  • demonstrate an understanding of the connections between St’át’imcets and the culture associated with the way of life of the St’át’imc;

  • produce language structures in the manner introduced in the stories, including: causatives, comparatives, benefactives, and other complex clause structures; and

  • apply the language structures and conversational skills they have learned outside of class on an ongoing basis.
