The Continuing Studies department offers a variety of health and safety, personal development and cultural interest courses, as well as, many online courses through “ed2go”.
All courses delivered on campus are offered on a cost recovery basis therefore early registration is essential, as insufficient enrollment will result in course cancellation. A list of Continuing Studies courses is found below. For course description, please click the course title.
Friday, January 27th 8:30am-4:30pm NVIT Merritt Campus Cost: $135 Minimum Age: 15 yrs
Occupational First Aid Level 1 provides an introductory knowledge on how to identify injuries and administer first aid to injuries. The OFA Level 1 course is suitable for people in these industries: small construction jobs (roofing, painting, drywall, framing, etc.), office workers, small manufacturing and assembling shops and restaurant workers. No prior first aid knowledge required to attend this course.
February 21st - March 3rd 8:30am-4:30pm NVIT Merritt Campus Cost: $1, 002.40 Minimum Age: 16 yrs
Requirements: Must bring Government issued ID

Occupational First Aid Level 3 is a 2 week/70 hour program designed to further first aid training and knowledge. The OFA Level 3 course is suitable for people in these industries: lumber mill, pulp and paper mill, medic for oil and gas in BC (Alberta may require extra training), large logging companies, large road construction and flagging. No prior first aid knowledge required to attend this course. All students must be at least 16 years old and physically able to perform first aid.
Wednesday, February 22nd 8:30am-4:30pm NVIT Merritt Campus Cost: $135 Minimum Age: 15 yrs
Basic one-day course offering lifesaving first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for the workplace or home. Course meets legislation requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines.
March 6th – 10th 8:30am-4:30pm NVIT Merritt Campus Cost: $1, 092 Minimum Age: 18 yrs
Course runs Monday-Friday Prerequisite: Level 3 First Aid (OFAL-600) Registration Deadline: Monday, February 13th, 2023
The EMR Bridge is an intensive, 5-day course designed for those with current Occupational First Aid Level 3 certification who would like to build upon their skills to become professional Emergency Medical Responders. To enroll, students must be a minimum of 18 years of age and have a valid Occupational First Aid Level 3 certificate. Upon successful completion of the course, a student is eligible to take the provincial licensing exam* to become a licensed Emergency Medical Responder in the province of British Columbia. *There are separate fees associated with the licensing process.

A food handling, sanitation and work safety course designed for food service establishment operators and front line food service workers such as cooks, servers, bussers, dishwashers, and deli workers. The course covers important food safety and worker safety information including food-borne illness, receiving and storing food, preparing food, serving food, cleaning and sanitizing.

Registration is on a first come first serve basis and seats cannot be reserved without payment or sponsorship form on file. To register for any of the courses above, please complete the registration form and return with payment to NVIT. Completed registration forms can be dropped off on campus or emailed to info@nvit.bc.ca . Payment can be made with cash, debit or credit card on campus or by credit card over the phone. Registrations cannot be processed without payment or sponsorship form on file. If you are being sponsored, please forward completed Sponsor Billing Authorization Form with your registration. No time to take a course on campus? Try one of our online courses offered in partnership with “ed2go”. These non-credit courses allow students to work at their own pace, on their own schedule.
Courses run for six weeks, with two lessons released each week for the duration of the course. Once a lesson has been released, students may access it at their convenience. At the end of the course, there is a two-week grace period to allow for completion of any outstanding assignments.
