Job Description:

NVIT anticipates a requirement for a full time, term Finance Clerk/Purchasing Officer at our Merritt Campus and invites applications from qualified individuals.  This position will commence April 15, 2021 and terminate April 30, 2022.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the AVP, Finance and Administration, the Finance Clerk is responsible for all aspects of the institution’s accounts payable system and ensuring that work is completed in an organized manner to ensure that payments are made accurately and in a timely manner. The Finance Clerk will provide back-up support for the Accounts Receivable Clerk/Cashier and any other duties assigned.

The Purchasing Officer is responsible for institute-wide purchasing including instructional, office, and bookstore textbooks and supplies, and for the day to day operations of the bookstore at both campus locations, The Purchasing Officer is responsible for planning, organizing, purchasing, receiving, distributing, and invoicing all Bookstore merchandise and ensuring that the Bookstore is operated as a profit centre (consistent with institutional policy). The Purchasing Officer reports to the AVP, Finance and Administration and will provide day-to-day supervision to the Bookstore Clerk and casual staff.


  • A relevant two-year diploma is preferred but equivalencies that consist of acceptable  combination of education and experience may be considered  Relevant work experience may be considered;

  • Minimum of one year of previous purchasing and accounts payable experience is preferred;

  • Knowledge of accounts payable systems and other computer programs, including Microsoft Office;

  • Basic accounting or bookkeeping skills;

  • Cash handling, cash management and Interac experience;

  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability;

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills showing a high degree of professionalism in all interactions;

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team;

  • knowledge of Indigenous culture.
