Course Details
Students will learn basic conversation, structure, and pronunciation in an Okanagan language immersion setting. Themes include greetings, kinship terms, questions and commands, and place names. Comprehension and expression will be developed to a basic reading and writing proficiency level.

    Procedure:
    Oral expression, comprehension, and interaction 80%. Marks are based on oral and written competence tests, participation, and contribution to research projects. Participation and daily evaluations 20%. Marks are based on response, recognition, and pronunciation in class activities. Grading procedures follow the NVIT policy.
    Learning Outcomes:

    Upon successful completion of this course students should be able to:


    exchange common greetings;



    • exchange opinions on topics of interest, describe or narrate an event, situation, or experience, discuss plans related to common activities, interact in Nsiylxcen in situations drawn from real life;



    • apply knowledge of characteristic Nsiylxcen traditions and customs, sports and games, and arts and designs to plan and implement a cultural event, analyze the effects of know about Nsiylxcen language and culture on various aspects of their lives;


  • research, analyze and use relevant information from a variety of age-appropriate Nsiylxcen resources, Elders, speakers and members of the Nsiylxcen community, to complete authentic tasks;

  • view, participate in, listen to and read creative works, and respond to them in various ways.
