SUPPORTING SUCCESS THROUGH ASSESSMENTS

Assessment Services

At NVIT, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to pursue their educational goals, regardless of their starting point. Our comprehensive assessment services are designed to support learners who may need additional prerequisites to enter a program or enroll in a specific course.

Our dedicated Academic Planners are here to facilitate these assessment services, ensuring that each applicant’s skill level is accurately determined. This process provides valuable advisory information, helping applicants understand how their current academic skills align with the demands of their chosen program.

Assessment Services we offer:

  • ACCUPLACER
  • APN Math Assessment (for admission to the Access to Practical Nursing Program)
  • Typing Skills Assessment
  • Digital Literacy Assessments

Please note, all of NVIT’s assessments are in English.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our Academic and Financial Planners are available by appointment Monday to Friday, 9 am – 4 pm. We encourage learners to spend time reviewing the study questions before booking an assessment. Once you are ready, you can book an appointment:

  • Call us: 1-877-682-3300

Confirm which ACCUPLACER assessments you will be writing. Generally, students complete the following assessments for admission/placement purposes:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Arithmetic
  • Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics (QAS)
  • WritePlacer

In some cases, you may only be required to complete certain sections (e.g., Math sections only). Sample questions and/or a study app are available through the College Board ACCUPLACER website.

  • All assessments, with the exception of the WritePlacer, are multiple-choice responses.
  • Generally, it takes learners between 2-4 hours to complete the assessment. If you do not finish on your assessment day, you can save your work and arrange to return to complete it.

The ACCUPLACER assessment is provided at no cost to learners.

If your initial attempt is not satisfactory, you will be permitted to re-write the assessment twice. After the third attempt, you will be required to provide proof of upgrading or tutoring, or wait three months before a subsequent attempt. This includes both the APN Math Assessment and ACCUPLACER assessment.

Yes. To write the ACCUPLACER off-campus, follow these steps:

  1. Find a qualified invigilator (located in Canada) such as a teacher, principal, Aboriginal Support Worker, or librarian. Please note, this person cannot be a friend or relative. The assessment must be administered at an approved educational facility or library.
  2. Coordinate with the invigilator to determine a date and time.
  3. Provide NVIT with the following information about your invigilator:
    – Name
    – Title
-Contact Information (business/work email, phone number, and address)

NVIT will verify the invigilator’s information. Once approved, NVIT will send instructions to the invigilator. Please note, it can take up to 5 business days for an invigilator to be approved.

NVIT offers a Community-Based Assessment (CBA) service, which brings the ACCUPLACER, as well as individual career and education planning, to your community. For more information, click here.

Prior Learning Assessment is recognition (in the form of credits) for learning that has occurred in a non-traditional environment (such as through employment, volunteer work, professional experience, etc.). Learn more about Prior Learning Recognition (PLAR) here.

This varies by institution. It is your responsibility to contact the institution and confirm.

At NVIT, we are committed to empowering our students with the tools and support they need to thrive. Our assessment services are just one of the many ways we help you unlock your full potential and achieve your educational dreams.
