What’s it like to work at NVIT? As BC’s Indigenous Public Post-Secondary Institute, we empower learners by strengthening voice and identity through education. As an Indigenous institution with an Indigenous mandate, diversity, equity, and inclusion are imbedded in our policies and practices. Our Merritt campus is located on the unceded traditional territories of the Nle?kepmx and Syilx people. Merritt, BC is a small community nestled in the Nicola Valley. It is ideally situated for those who seek a peaceful country living with easy access to urban centres. It is a one-hour drive to Kamloops and Kelowna, and a three-hour drive to Vancouver. Merritt is known as the “Country Music Capital of Canada” for its wealth of country music attractions, activities, and events.

NVIT’s second campus, located in Burnaby, BC is located on the unceded traditional territory of the Coast Salish. The three host nations of this region are Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh and Musqueam. Burnaby has one of the highest open-space-to-resident ratios in North America, with 25% of the land designated to parks and open spaces.

NVIT also offers employment opportunities in First Nations communities throughout British Columbia and across Canada – both virtually and in-person. Community Education provides students with an opportunity to learn in their own community, which supports students who do not wish to move away from their community or are currently employed.
