Entrance Awards

NVIT hosts a variety of entrance awards open only to NVIT students. These awards are presented annually in September.

Some awards require you to demonstrate financial need, while others recognize academic achievement, community involvement, or other accomplishments. Click on the award titles to download the application package. Students who want to discuss the bursaries and scholarships in detail may book an appointment with an Academic and Financial Planner.

Black Feather Fund Entrance Scholarship

$1000 x 2

The Black Feather Fund Entrance Scholarship will be disbursed to two (2) students in the amount of $1000 each at the annual awards ceremony. If successful, these awards are renewable for an additional $1000 if the students maintain their respective programs’ minimum grade point averages in their first year of studies at NVIT.

The NVIT Registration Office must receive applications by 4:30 PM on August 15th each year. If August 15th lands on a weekend, the application will be due the last business day before the deadline. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Please mail or drop off original copies only; faxes, emails and/or photocopies will not be accepted.

Casey Holmes Jr. Memorial Entrance Bursary

$500

Awarded to a graduate of the ENRT Certificate program who plans to complete the ENRT Diploma program. The student must be registered in full-time coursework in the diploma program and must have obtained a minimum 2.33 (C+) grade point average in the Certificate Program. The student must demonstrate financial need, dedication to their studies and connection to the land.

The bursary will be applied to the student’s account as it is to be used for tuition, books or supplies. The deadline to apply is 4:30 PM, August 15th each year or the last business day BEFORE the deadline. The Awards Adjudication Committee will determine the recipient.

Credit Union Foundation of BC Entrance Bursary

$1000 x 2

This bursary is available to students returning to NVIT studies for either their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of studies. Students returning to a new program are eligible. Students must have a 40% or higher course load studying in any program at NVIT. Merritt, Vancouver and Community Education students are all eligible. Students must show financial need and complete the additional application questions.

The deadline to apply is 4:30 PM, August 15 each year, or the last business BEFORE the deadline. The Awards Adjudication Committee will determine the recipient.

F. Gordon Antoine Memorial Entrance Scholarship

$5000 x 3

Awarded to students in each of the three categories:

  1. Mature Student: The applicant must have been out of school for at least 5 years; be at least 25 years of age; be of Aboriginal ancestry; and enroll in an 80% course load of a certificate or diploma program (post-secondary level) in Merritt, BC.
  2. Nicola Valley Secondary School Student: The applicant must be a first-time post-secondary student; be of Indigenous ancestry; have graduated from a Nicola Valley Secondary School or equivalent, with overall grades of at least 80%; and enroll in an 80% course load of a certificate or diploma program (post-secondary level) in Merritt, BC.
  3. Secondary School Student from anywhere in Canada outside the Nicola Valley: The applicant must be a first-time post-secondary student; be of Indigenous ancestry; have graduated from a secondary school in Canada or equivalent, with overall grades of at least 80%; and enroll in an 80% course load of a certificate or diploma program (post-secondary level) in Merritt, BC.

The award will be released in two (2) disbursements ($2500 in October and $2500 in February, dependent upon achieving a minimum 2.33 GPA in the fall semester.

Enrolment Services will contact eligible students no later than August 5th. An application will be sent to eligible students and must be returned by 4:30 PM on August 15th or the last business day BEFORE the deadline.

The Awards Adjudication Committee will determine the recipient.

FPSE Local 19 - NVITEA Entrance Scholarship

$1000 x 2

Awarded to two Full-time from any campus, registered in minimum 80% course loads, in any Field of study that supports the labour movement, who demonstrate academic excellence and leadership skills.

The deadline to apply is August 15th at 4:30 PM or the last business day before the deadline. The Awards Adjudication Committee will automatically determine the recipient.

Grant Brusegard Memorial Entrance Bursary

$500 x 2

Awarded to a full-time student in any program at the Merritt Campus who is registered in a minimum 60% course load, who attends regularly, achieves strong grades and demonstrates financial need. The student must be from the Lytton, BC area. If a recipient cannot be found, preference will be given to students from the Southern Interior of BC. The deadline to apply is August 15th at 4:30 PM or the last business day BEFORE the deadline. The Awards Adjudication Committee will automatically determine the recipient.

Heather Klatt Memorial Entrance Bursary

Awarded to two students registered in one of the Health Care Assistant, Health Care Access, or Access to Practical Nursing programs at NVIT. Students must be Canadian and enrolled full-time in any level of studies from the Merritt campus or from Community Education.

Immediate Entry Bursary

$3013 x various

Awarded to Grade 12 graduates who graduate and transition directly from high school (BC Adult Graduation Diploma not eligible) to NVIT. Students must have applied and been accepted by June 30 and be registered in a minimum 60% course load of first year post-secondary courses, each semester, for the upcoming academic year.

Students must be a 2026 Grade 12 graduate (Indigenous or non-Indigenous) from:

  • School District #58 (Merritt Secondary, Princeton Secondary, SCIDES);
  • School District #74 (Desert Sands Community School, Kumsheen Shch-Ema-meet,
    Lillooet -Secondary, David Stoddart Secondary);
  • School District #78 Fraser-Cascade (Hope Secondary, Agassiz Elementary-
    Secondary & Boston Bar Elementary-Secondary);
  • Logan Lake Secondary;
  • Similkameen Elementary Secondary;
  • A BC First Nations School registered with the BC First Nations Schools Association;
  • Or any secondary school in British Columbia, if the applicant self-identifies as
    Indigenous

A 2026 Grade 12 graduate from across BC who self-identifies as Indigenous

Micheal and Cecilia Street memorial Entrance Bursary

$1500

Awarded to a full-time, Indigenous student (non-status/self-identifying included) from the Merritt or Vancouver campus, who is enrolled in a minimum 80% course load in any field of study (Developmental Education, Employment Skills Access, Youth Explore Trades, and Bridging to Trades are excluded). The recipients must demonstrate financial need and dedication to their studies, display citizenship qualities, and describe their balance between home(including hobbies), work and educational lifestyles. The student must have attained a minimum 3.0 (B) grade point average in their current year of studies.

Mitchell W. Shuter Entrance Award

$2500 x 2

NVIT Alumni, Mitchell W. Shuter, is pleased to offer two (2) entrance awards per year, valued at $2500 each and will be made in two disbursements; $1250 in September and $1250 in January; dependent upon achieving a minimum 2.33 grade point average in the fall semester.

Native Northwest Reconciliation Entrance Bursary

$500 x 2

This bursary is open to self-identified Indigenous learners from any campus (community programs included) who are enrolled in a minimum 60% course load for the for the upcoming academic year. This entrance bursary is open to learners enrolled in any field of study (Developmental Education, Employment Skills Access, Bridging to Trades and Micro-credentials are excluded). The bursary application, proof of enrolment (via transcripts or a registration statement) and a 300-word essay describing dedication to Indigenous arts and/or culture are required to be eligible for this award.

Nicola Naturalist Society Bursary

$1000

Awarded to a full-time, graduating first year Environmental Resources Technology (ENRT) student, from the Merritt campus, expecting to continue into his/her second year of studies of ENRT at NVIT. The applicant must demonstrate high academic achievement, motivation, self-discipline, and dedication to his/her studies, and plans on pursuing a career in the Environmental and/or Natural Resources Field. The applicant must be a Canadian citizen.

NVIT Student Society Entrance Award for Merritt

The NVIT Student Society Entrance Award is designed to support any learner that pays the Student Activity Fee during their educational journey at NVIT. One (1) Award of $1,000 will be provided by NVIT Student Society to support a learner associated with the Merritt campus. This Award is open to any learner of any age with a full time or part time course load, registered in any program on the Merritt campus, or a Community Education student within 100km of the Merritt campus, who pays the Student Activity Fee. The NVIT Registrar’s Office must receive applications by 4:30 PM on August 15. If August 15th lands on a weekend, the application will be due the last business day before the deadline. NVIT Student Society Entrance Award for Vancouver

The NVIT Student Society Entrance Award is designed to support any learner that pays the Student Activity Fee during their educational journey at NVIT. One (1) Award of $1,000 will be provided by NVIT Student Society to support a learner associated with the Vancouver campus. This Award is open to any learner of any age with a full time or part time course load, registered in any program on the Vancouver campus, or a Community Education student within 100km of the Vancouver campus, who pays the Student Activity Fee. The NVIT Registrar’s Office must receive applications by 4:30pm on August 15, 2024. If August 15th lands on a weekend, the application will be due the last business day before the deadline. Robert A. Lisle Memorial Transition Entrance Award

$1000

Awarded to a mature learner, with high financial need enrolled in a minimum 80% course load in a certificate, diploma, or associate degree program at the Merritt campus. To be eligible, students must be entering the first year of a post-secondary level program and have completed upgrading prior to admission. Preference will be given to students entering the Access to Practical Nursing (APNS) program or an Associate Degree program after upgrading.

The NVIT Registration Office must receive applications by 4:30 PM on August 15th.

Technical Safety BC Entrance Bursary

$4000 x 3

Awarded to three recipients of Indigenous ancestry who are enrolled full-time (60% or higher) in any program, at any campus for the incoming academic year. This bursary provided by Technical Safety BC will support learners in their studies, particularly in technical/trades education and social sciences. Applicants must provide proof of full-time enrolment for the incoming academic year and demonstrate financial need.
