A safe space to grow

Success Centre

The Success Centre at NVIT endeavours to provide a culturally appropriate learner-centred environment, fostering informed and respectful working relationships with every student. Our holistic approach to learning integrates a safe space to share concerns, wellness support and referrals, academic skill development through diverse workshops, and resume and interview skills-building sessions. In addition to these, in-person and online tutoring sessions are offered, which may include, but are not limited to, writing support, effective listening and note-taking strategies, presentation skill building, study skills, and time management strategies.

Embedded within the Success Centre are our Accommodation and Accessibility supports. Through our commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility, we provide a variety of services that facilitate academic achievement for all students. From addressing learning disabilities to accommodating physical and/or temporary disabilities, the Success Centre is dedicated to fostering independence, self-awareness, and self-advocacy across all aspects of student life.

If we can provide any assistance or answer any questions, please feel free to book an appointment with us!

Accommodations and Accessibility Supports

NVIT provides accommodations and accessibility services to support inclusive and equitable access to all programs and services for students. Accommodations address unique student needs to reduce barriers so students can access information, participate in learning, and demonstrate their skills and knowledge.

Accommodations apply to students documented and attested, temporary, episodic, or permanent accommodation and accessibility needs which impact opportunities for inclusive and equitable participation in academic and non-curricular campus environments and experiences.

The Success Centre acknowledges that students have ownership of their personal information and the right to decide when and how to share it. Recognizing the sensitivity of disability and accommodation details for many students, the Success Centre upholds strict confidentiality, ensuring that all information is kept with the highest level of privacy.

This can include learning, time management, staying organized, remembering important information, learning how to study, and getting practical tips for groupwork and presentations. We welcome you to connect with a Success Centre Planner, a Writing Tutor, or a Math Tutor to discuss your learning needs.

Taking care of students

Health and Wellbeing

At Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT), the holistic approach to mental health and wellbeing support is deeply rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing and being. This comprehensive framework recognizes the interconnectedness of mind, body, spirit, and community, fostering an environment where traditional Indigenous practices and contemporary mental health strategies coexist. Central to this approach are Elders, who share their wisdom and guidance, helping to weave cultural teachings, storytelling, land-based learning, and ceremonies into the support system.

The Success Centre compliments these supports by nurturing a sense of belonging and identity, creating a safe space for students to thrive both academically and personally.

Wellness Room (Merritt) and The Student Lounge (Vancouver): We invite you to explore these unique student spaces on each campus.

Elders’ Support: At the heart of this Indigenous institution sits a loving, courageous, and insightful group of Elders full of wisdom to be shared to the next generation. Our elders are available to talk to for counselling, knowledge sharing, or even for just a quick catch up. Learn more about the Elders Council.

Mental Health and Telehealth Resources: The Success Centre recognizes the importance of health and wellbeing. We encourage you stop by or connect with us to learn more about internal and external resources.

The Entrance Awards application deadline has been EXTENDED to September 5, 2025.
