Internal Year-End Awards

Year-End Internal Awards are presented annually at the end of each academic year. Most of these awards are automatically determined by the NVIT Awards Adjudication Committee, with all full-time students being considered for each award determined by the set criteria.

Some awards require the student to fill out an application. Click on the award title to download the application package for those awards.

ABCFP ForesTrust Bursary

$1000

Awarded to a first-year, full-time student in the Environmental Resources Technology program who demonstrates academic achievement and extracurricular activities.  The student may show interest in pursuing registration with the ABCFP.

BC Association of Social Workers Bursary

$250

Awarded to a full-time 3rd year Bachelor of Social Work student who is active in school affairs, demonstrates class participation and leadership skills, shows strong academic performance, demonstrates financial need and shows outstanding achievement.

BC Energy Regulator Bursary

$1000 x 4

Awarded to Indigenous students from BC First Nations groups (non-status/self-identifying included), enrolled in minimum 60% course loads in any program or field. The students must be in good academic standing (3.0 GPA, B average) and demonstrate financial need. The students are expected to submit applications and financial need statements.

Four (4) $1000 bursaries awarded to full-time Indigenous students from BC First Nations groups (non-status/self-identifying included). Two awards will be granted to students attending the Merritt campus, one attending the Vancouver campus and one attending Community Education.

Campus Living Centres Bursary

$500

Awarded to a full-time outstanding student from any program at the Merritt campus who can demonstrate his or her contribution in student life at NVIT through direct involvement in at least 2 of the following areas: social activities organized through recognized student bodies such as student governments, clubs and formalized residence groups; sporting activities such as intramurals, varsity athletics, and residence organized events; or academic and educational activities such as tutoring, organized study groups, educational campaigns, and fundraising initiatives. The student must reside in a residence managed by Campus Living Centres. The student must have maintained a C+ (65%) average or better in the year in which they apply. Students who are employed by Campus Living Centres are not eligible.

Students must complete the following items:

  • Complete and sign the application.
  • Demonstrate your contribution in student life at NVIT through direct involvement in at least 2 of the following areas:
    • social activities organized through recognized student bodies such as student governments, clubs and formalized residence groups;
    • sporting activities such as intramurals, varsity athletics, and residence organized events; or
    • academic and educational activities such as tutoring, organized study groups, educational campaigns, and fundraising initiatives.

Canadian Institute of Forestry Technical Silver Ring

Silver Ring

Since 1967, the Canadian Institute of Forestry has presented silver rings to graduating Environmental Resources Technology students from recognized Canadian Forestry programs. CIF silver rings are available for purchase to welcome new forestry professionals to unite them at the national level. It is worn on the little finger of the left hand. The engraving of the maple leaf seeming to grow towards the tip of the finger symbolizes the growth of professional opportunities.

A silver ring costs $75 for non-members and $55 for members plus tax. If you wish to purchase a membership, here is the link: https://www.cif-ifc.org/what-we-do/silver-ring-program/. If interested, please order from an Academic and Financial Planner to get sized, provide contact information and make payment. The deadline to order and pay for a ring will be March 31st. We also ask students to apply to graduate by this deadline if you are purchasing a ring as well.

Canadian Institute of Forestry Gold Medal Award

Gold Medal

Awarded to a full-time student in the Environmental Resources Technology program at the Merritt campus who demonstrates outstanding scholarship, sportsmanship and citizenship throughout the years of the program. The deadline to apply is August 15th by 4:30 PM each year or the last business day before the deadline.

Coldwater Indian Band Community Involvement Bursary

Awarded to four (4) full-time Indigenous students from the Merritt campus who are members of the Coldwater Indian Band. Students must be enrolled in at least 60% course loads in any field of study (Developmental Education, Employment Skills Access and Bridging to Trades are excluded). The applicants must demonstrate financial need, a character reference submitted by an instructor, meet their minimum program GPA and submit an essay that describes a commitment to community involvement.

Each year, the Coldwater Indian Band will donate four (4) awards of $550 each to be disbursed at the annual NVIT awards ceremony.

Corix District Energy Award Application

Awarded to a first-year, full-time student in the Environmental Resources Technology program who shows academic prowess by achieving the highest grade point average and then plans to continue into second-year studies.

Eldon Nast Memorial Scholarship

$250

Awarded to a full-time student in Developmental Studies (College Readiness, Bridging to Trades and Employment Skills) at the Merritt campus who is registered in a minimum 60% course load, who attends regularly, achieves strong grades and demonstrates financial need. The student may show interest in registering for a higher-level program at NVIT.

Felix and Bernice Squakin Memorial Scholarship

$250 x 2

Awarded to two (2) full-time students in a one-year certificate program at the Merritt campus who are dedicated to academic achievement and commitment to citizenship, especially helping others.

FORED BC Bursary

$500

This bursary is open to NVIT students of self-declared, Indigenous ancestry in any program. Students must declare a financial need and obtain high overall grades. Students must also write a short paragraph on how traditional ecological knowledge may be or has been applied to environmental resources management in their territory, community, or Band decision-making.

One award of $500 will be presented at the annual NVIT graduation ceremony. If a student is not graduating this year, they will be notified by email asking to redeem the award by emailing awards@nvit.ca.

Governor General of Canada Bronze Medallion

Bronze Medallion

Awarded to a full-time graduating student receiving a two-year diploma credential who achieved the highest GPA at NVIT overall. The applicant must be enrolled in an 80% minimum course load in both the fall and spring semesters. There is no monetary award associated with the Medal.

Helen Meilleur Memorial Library Research Scholarship

$500

Awarded to a full-time student in any program at the Merritt campus who demonstrates strong research skills.

Students must submit:

  • a completed application form and essay, previously marked by one of their instructors, to the NVIT Library.
    • The essay must show clear and concise writing style, grammar, and structure, including proper research citation and APA style.
    • It must include an introduction, body and conclusion; ideas must flow smoothly and be consistent.
    • The student’s use of referencing will also be considered.
    • The essay must include a reference page as well.

Awarded to a full-time graduating student in a one-year certificate credential based on high GPA and community involvement.

Lower Nicola Indian Band Development Corporation Bursary

Awarded to a full-time Indigenous student in the Environmental Resources Technology program from one of the local Bands; based on academic achievement and financial need.

One (1) award will be disbursed at the annual NVIT graduation ceremony. If the recipient is not graduating this year, they will be notified by email and can redeem the award by contacting awards@nvit.ca.

Mercer Scholarship

To be eligible, students must be registered in a business program (OFAD1, OFAD2, AGLP1, FNPA1, TMGT1, ACED1, ACED2, IBUS2) and want to pursue a career in leadership and/or human resource management. Students must have the ability to demonstrate the following values during the academic year: passion, respect for diversity, integrity, innovation, dedication, empowerment and accountability. Students must also achieve a minimum grade point average of 3.0.

Two (2) awards of $500 each will be disbursed at the annual NVIT graduation ceremony. If the recipient is not graduating this year, they will be notified by email and can redeem the award by contacting awards@nvit.ca.

Awarded to thirteen (13) full-time students who demonstrate the highest GPA in the current academic year in their respective programs enrolled in a minimum 80% course load in both semesters. The Awards Adjudication Committee will automatically determine the recipient.

One award is available in each of the following program areas:

Awarded to a full-time graduate student in a 100-level or higher certificate program who is enrolled in an 80% course load with the highest grade point average. (A minimum grade point average of 3.0 must be attained to be eligible.)

NVIT Administrative Staff Matching Award-Diploma

Awarded to a full-time graduate student in a 200-level or higher diploma program who is enrolled in an 80% course load with the highest grade point average. (A minimum grade point average of 3.0 must be attained to be eligible.)

NVIT Elders' Council Bursary

$250 x 2

The NVIT Elders’ Council Bursary is awarded to two (2) full-time students in any program; one from the Merritt campus and one from the Vancouver campus, based on demonstrated financial need, academic achievement and performed community service. The recipients must meet their respective program’s minimum grade point averages. The recipients will also be required to attend the first Elders’ Council meeting the following October and/or November to introduce themselves to the NVIT Elders’ Council.

The NVIT Elders’ Council will disburse two (2) bursaries valued at $250.00 each at the annual NVIT graduation ceremonies. If the recipient is not graduating, they will be notified by email and can redeem the award by contacting awards@nvit.ca.

NVIT Leadership Award

The award recognizes students, from both campuses, who maintain a minimum 60% course load with a minimum 3.00 grade point average during the last ten (10) months of study, who actively participate in their learning environment and assist in the development of community.

Applicants will be nominated by NVIT faculty and staff who send nomination forms to the NVIT Registrar’s Office

NVIT will disburse a maximum of six (06) awards to be disbursed at the annual NVIT graduation ceremony. If the recipient is not graduating this year, they will be notified by email and can redeem the award by contacting awards@nvit.ca.

The NVIT Registration Office must receive nominations by 4:30pm on March 15, 2026. If March 15th lands on a weekend, the nomination will be due the last business day before the deadline. Students will then be notified of their nomination and must complete the remaining application requirements by 4:30pm on March 31, 2026. NVIT Student Housing Academic Incentive Award

Awarded to returning students who lived in our Student Residence during the last semester and returned to live in residence for a second semester and who achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and enrolled in a minimum of 3 courses per semester.

NVIT Student Society Year-End Award

This award is open to any learner, of any age, with a full- or part-time course load over the 2025-2026 academic year, who was registered in any program on the Merritt campus, Vancouver campus, or Community Education program (within 100kms of either campus), who paid the student activity fee.

Two (2) awards of $1,000 each, will be disbursed at the annual graduation ceremony. If the recipient is not graduating, they will be notified by email and can redeem the award by contacting awards@nvit.ca.

Pat Brownlee-Baker Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to two (2) Indigenous female students, enrolled in any program, any level of studies, full or part-time studies from either campus, who were previously released from incarceration and demonstrate financial need. If no students apply, the award will be opened to all Indigenous female students.

Each year, two (2) awards of $500 each, will be disbursed at the annual NVIT graduation ceremony. If the recipient is not graduating this year, they will be notified by email and can redeem the award by contacting awards@nvit.ca.

Sharon McIvor Award of Excellence

Awarded to a full-time Aboriginal female from either campus who achieved a minimum 3.0-grade point average and who demonstrated leadership skills while attending NVIT. This award was donated by the NVIT Board of Governors who recognizes the consistent excellence in teaching by Sharon McIvor and her significant impact on the personal and academic growth of our students. Sharon officially received national recognition by accepting her own teaching award of excellence from the Association of Canadian Community Colleges.

SISCO Bursary

$500

Awarded to a full-time first-year Environmental Resources Technology program student who achieved the highest grade point average in three courses: Silvics and Dendrology (ENRT 150), Soil Science (ENRT 155), and Principles of Ecology (ENRT 170).

Sysco Leadership Scholarship for Indigenous Students

$1500

Awarded to a full-time Indigenous student from BC enrolled in the Professional Cook Level 1 or 2 programs at the Merritt campus, who achieves a 2.67 (B-) grade point average and demonstrates leadership skills at NVIT and in their community.

Each year, Sysco Canada will donate (1) one scholarship worth $1500 to be disbursed at the annual year-end NVIT graduation ceremony. Students must be in good academic standing and can only win the award once per year.

Scw'exmx Tribal Council Bursary

Scw’exmx Tribal Council is awarding this bursary to two (2) full-time students; one in 1st year studies and one in 2nd year studies, who are members of one of the Constituent member bands: Coldwater Indian Band, Nooaitch Indian Band, Shackan Indian Band and Upper Nicola Indian Band. These students must be enrolled in one of the following programs: Language, Culture, Lands, Title & Rights, Fisheries, Finance or Administration with the highest GPA in the fall and spring semesters.

Spirit of Leadership (sne?m~m’ayntwixw) Student Ambassador Award

$250 x 8
Awarded to NVIT Ambassadors who are exceptional learners going the extra mile in addition to their other leadership roles (i.e., student society or Education Council) and balancing their studies with life’s demands. Students do not need to apply for this award.

Te Ngaehe Award

$500 x 2
Two (2) awards of $500.00 each will be presented at the annual NVIT graduation ceremony. If the student is not graduating this year, the student will be emailed with notice to contact awards@nvit.ca to redeem their award.

Awarded to Indigenous students from BC First Nations groups (non-status/self-identifying included), enrolled in minimum 60% course load in any program or field from either campus. The students must demonstrate financial need, educational goals and how the award will help them achieve those goals. They must also include a description of any leadership experience the student has demonstrated in their community.

One award of $1000 will be disbursed at the annual NVIT graduation ceremonies. If the recipient is not graduating this year, they will be notified by email and can redeem the award by contacting awards@nvit.ca.

Awarded to a second-year Environmental Resources Technology student who demonstrates all-round performance throughout the program.

Urban Spirit Foundation Scholarship

$500 x 2

This bursary is open to all students of Indigenous ancestry who are enrolled in a full-time (60% or higher) course load at the NVIT Vancouver Campus. The students must demonstrate academic achievement with a minimum 2.0 grade point average and find themselves in financial need. The students will need to describe their journey to success through post-secondary education.

Two (2) awards of $500 each will be disbursed at the annual NVIT graduation ceremony. If the recipient is not graduating this year, they will be notified by email and can redeem the award by contacting awards@nvit.ca.
